Capt. John P. Monahan VFW Post 12136 and the Auxiliary was represented at the Department of South Carolina Mid-Winter Conference held February 3 – 5 at the Hilton Myrtle Beach Resort at Myrtle Beach, South Carolina by Commander Jim Taylor and Auxiliary President SuZanne Taylor, Wil Desjardins and Auxiliary Treasure Janet Desjardins, and Jim Heisser and Auxiliary Conductress Freda Heisser.  

The events of the weekend included meetings, workshops, and social events.  

At the General Meeting, Post Members Hillary Collins, Hershel Fogleman, Peter Sturtevant, and Hank Povenelli received VFW National Life Savings Appreciation Certificates.  The members were working at the Buddy Poppy Fund Raiser when a nearby accident trapped a motorist under a car.  Their quick action aided the motorist until emergency personnel arrived. 

 Phillip Poston, the Post’s nominee for the VFW National Emergency Technician Public Service Award was recognized at the Department level.  

Commander Jim Taylor accepted the awards for all of the winners. Our Post continues to excel in the community and support of our Public Service personnel.  

The Auxiliary was recognized for being the first in the Department for submitting 100% of required reports, and achieving 122.58% of the membership requirement for 2016-2017.  The Department Commander stated that ‘Auxiliary 12136 is the newest Auxiliary in the Department, and is also the best by leading in several catagories’.
